The AGM of the Hedgecock Community Centre was full of praises from the stakeholders
On Wednesday 16th March 2022, at 6.30pm, the Hedgecock Community Centre (HCC) management and members attended their bi-annual general meeting and election.
HCC has been in existence since February 2017; providing vital services for the community of Upney and the surrounding areas, as well as being a beacon hub for other service providers to ensure a holistic approach to meeting the needs of the community.
The meeting was well attended by members of the HCC, ward councillors, service providers, leads from key local organisations, and select officers from the Barking and Dagenham Council. The current Chair of HCC; Yousuf Khan welcomed everyone and presented an overview of major achievements and any drawbacks. He summarised by saying “the past 2 years had been exceptionally difficult for the community and everyone in HCC stepped up to respond to the beckoning calls of the people and the council to support all those who are in need.”
The Secretary, Tojomul Ali presented the annual trustees report and Q & A. The Treasurer, Jamil Al-Faradhi presented the finance report and Q & A session.
At the bi-annual AGM, trustees are elected from the membership list to run HCC for the forthcoming two years.
This year, there were four (4) vacancies for the trusteeship. The Election Commissioners were Councillor Mohammed Saderuzzaman Khan and Councillor Faruk Chowdhury. There were only two new applicants for the trustee’s role. Hence, an election was not conducted. However, the two candidates gave a verbal presentation of why they were suited to the roles and how they would contribute to the vision of HCC.
The two vacant posts have been kept open for women and any professionals with relevant skills in safeguarding, financial management and bid writing.
At the next directors/office bearers meeting, they will elect the new chair, secretary and treasurer of HCC.
“It was a well-attended meeting and a very smooth election”, said the Election Commissioner, Cllr Khan. “We are fully aware of the great work of HCC and their contributions to Barking & Dagenham and wish them all the success in the future.
“They have done lots of great work from the centre, especially during this coronavirus pandemic, providing essential food items to the vulnerable and the isolated community.”
