Inter-Bishwanath Badminton Tournament was a huge success.

On Sunday 19th November, from 12 midday, at Robert Clark Leisure Centre, Dagenham, Bishwanath Sports Association (BSA) in partnership with Bishwanath Community Association (BCA) organised their inaugural men’s badminton partnership tournament.

Twenty-one (21) teams from across the country, as further afield as Oldham and Rochdale convened for this men’s doubles tournament. The tournament’s main sponsor was Abdus Shahid Harun of Heavenly Desserts, Gallions Reach, Beckton Retail Park.

BSA leads; Koyes Miah (Chairman), Anfor Ali (Secretary), Khalis Miah (Head of Operations), Kobir Chowdhury (Treasurer), Ashik Ali (Organising Secretary) and Alam Sheikh (EC Member) amongst others were present to launch the event as well as some participated in the tournament. BCA leads; Akhlaqur Rahman (Chairman), Akhtar Ahmed (Vice Chairman) and many others attended and participated in the tournament. There were many distinguished guests participating, including Misbah Uddin, Monir Ahmed, Mayen Uddin Ansar, Kolil Miah, and Mohammed Karol. Free matching T-shirts were provided to all the participants and the management committees of both organisations.

The event proceeded with welcome speeches from the leads and the rules explained to all the participants. Akhlaqur also provided jelabi to all the participants to boost some energy on the courts. Generous lunch and refreshments were provided for all the participants and spectators.

After almost 6 hours of gruelling matches, the Champions of Bishwanath were Team Mumin and Akhtar. The runners-up were Team Naz and Kawsar, the Third Place were Team Alamin and Ahad, and 4th place was Team Amru and Asanur.  “Congratulations to all the participants and the winners!”

The presentation ceremony was attended by the Speaker of the Council, Tower Hamlets, Cllr Jahed Choudhury, and Lead Member for Culture and Recreation, Cllr Iqbal Hossain. The winners received a cheque of £300 plus trophies. The Runners Up received a cheque of £150 plus trophies, and the 3rd and 4th place teams received trophies.

“Some great talents were on display today, and Team Munim and Aktar were well-deserved winners!” Said Speaker Cllr Choudhury.

“This is our first Inter-Bishwanath tournament hosted by two sports organisations. It was a huge success.” Said Akhlaqur.

“We want to build on this success, and next year, we want to make it bigger and better!” Added Anfor.
