London Enterprise Academy celebrates 10 Years with the community
On the 9th of October, London Enterprise Academy marked its tenth anniversary with a celebration attended by students, parents, staff, community members, and distinguished guests, including Lutfur Rahman, Mayor of Tower Hamlets, and Baroness Pola Uddin. The evening was a testament to the hard work, persistence, and dedication of everyone who contributed to the school’s success over the past decade.
The Principal, Ashid Ali, expressed gratitude, in his address, to the parents and students who had supported the school over the years, placing their trust in the leadership and staff. He also extended his thanks to his team for their efforts. Reflecting on the journey, he acknowledged the challenges faced during the early days, when the school had no building, no teachers, and no results, and how it had grown into an established institution offering families an additional secondary choice.
Mayor Rahman, a special guest at the event, commended the school’s achievements and voiced his aspirations for its students, saying, “I am pleased to be here today supporting the school, the management, and their students. I want our students to go to the best and the top universities in the country, to become professionals, become successful individuals, and for them to be mentors and role models.” His words captured the shared ambition for students to strive for greatness and become leaders of tomorrow.
Other special guests were present at the event including London Assembly Member, Unmesh Desai, Cllr Faruk Choudhury, Peter Mann, founding governor of London Enterprise Academy, and Professor Sanawar Choudhury. Dr Michael Harpham, ex-associate principal of London Enterprise Academy who was also at the anniversary dinner spoke warmly about his time at the Academy, noting the collective effort that had led to the school’s continued success. “It was my pleasure to work with the staff and students, and we got some amazing results this year,” he said.
2024 has been an important year for the school as LEA not only celebrated its 10th Anniversary but also its first cohort of graduates, with many alumni in attendance to share their stories. Many former students have gone on to prestigious sixth forms and universities, including Imperial College, UCL, Kings, LSE, Queen Mary, and Oxbridge. Over the last few years, London Enterprise Academy has consistently achieved excellent GCSE results, and the school has a vision of building on this foundation in the coming years. Dr. Sophina Asong, another key figure in the school’s development, expressed her pride in the students’ achievements, stating, “The tenth year has been a great success for the school. We’re very proud of the children who have graduated here. They’re doing the borough proud. You can see how the students who have graduated here are being models and examples for the younger ones.” She praised the school’s rich extracurricular offerings, emphasizing that despite the challenges of Tower Hamlets, London Enterprise Academy provided students with experiences that go beyond academic expectations.
The Leader of the Tower Hamlets Labour Party, Cllr Shirajul Islam, also extended his congratulations to the school community, stating, “We congratulate London Enterprise Academy and the teachers and students for the fantastic work that they do, and I hope they go from strength to strength. We are here to celebrate many more anniversaries in the future.”
Students at London Enterprise Academy have made excellent progress in English, Maths and Science. The school is committed to providing extracurricular activities as students can go on a wide range of trips and visits, including residential trips, Duke of Edinburgh, and day trips to theatres and galleries. The school has also been dedicated to contributing to the local community and beyond, through raising money for charities like Marie Curie, collecting food for Tower Hamlets Food Bank, and providing educational supplies & water wells in Bangladesh. Students have also shown their determination to improve the school’s facilities by campaigning for new playgrounds, which were completed in 2022, costing nearly a million pounds without any additional external funding.
Special thanks were given to the teachers and support staff during the event for their unwavering commitment, as well as the school’s governors for their voluntary work in meeting statutory obligations and the evening concluded with a message of optimism and pride for the students and alumni, who, as the Principal noted, are the leaders and role models of tomorrow.
