Community stands united as Mayesbrook Park welcomes first Jumu’ah prayers
By Nazir Ali
The Mayesbrook Park Jumu’ah Service was officially inaugurated on Friday, 1 August 2025, by the esteemed Shaykh Mufti Khaledul Hoque Alamin. This significant event marks a new chapter in strengthening community bonds and promoting spiritual growth. In his uplifting address, the Shaykh urged the youth to take inspiration from the Ashabul-Kahf, encouraging them to uphold faith, resilience, and moral integrity.
The inauguration was graced by a wide range of distinguished guests, including local Imams, community leaders, and councillors. All in attendance welcomed the initiative, highlighting that the Jumu’ah Service is not merely a place of prayer but a vital communal space for connection, support, and collective development for men, women and children.

“This new Jumu’ah Service is a wonderful addition to our community,” said Mr Atiqur Rahman, Chair of the Barking and Dagenham Muslim Association (BDMA) and the host organisation of this weekly Jumu’ah service. “It provides an opportunity for families and individuals to come together, strengthen their bonds, and nurture their faith.”
The Mayesbrook Park Jumu’ah Service is designed to be inclusive and welcoming, fostering unity and shared values among attendees. With the dedicated leadership of BDMA and the strong support of community leaders, this service is poised to become a central hub of spiritual nourishment and engagement.
Mr Shabbir Kawsar, General Secretary of the BDMA, extended his heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Sporthouse & Gym, the leadership teams of Barking Community Forum (BCF), and Longbridge Bengali Community Association (LBCA), as well as Mr Zoinul Abidin BEM (Senior Manager, Barking & Dagenham Council), and local ward Councillor Faruk Choudhury for their continuous support. He also expressed deep gratitude to all the volunteers, participants, and the Khatib for their invaluable contributions, praying that Allah (SWT) rewards them abundantly in both this world and the Hereafter.
