A Special General Meeting of Dakshin Bishwanath United Sporting Club & Academy

Published: 5 November 2025

On Monday, 3rd November, a Special General Meeting of the Dakshin Bishwanath United Sporting Club & Academy was held at Tara Taree Restaurant, New Road, London. The gathering brought together members and supporters from across the UK to review the club’s progress over the past two years and to outline plans for the continued development of youth sports in Bishwanath, Sylhet.

Dakshin Bishwanath United Sporting Club & Academy is a grassroots organisation dedicated to empowering young people through structured sports coaching, health awareness, and positive community engagement.

The meeting was presided over by Alhaj Manik Miah and conducted by Md Misbah Uddin. The session began with a Qur’an recitation by Mohammad Abdul Sobhan.

Members present included:

Md. Motosir Khan, Alhaj Hasan Ali, Shah Joynal Abedin,

Alhaj Abdur Rob, Abdul Gafur, Askir Ali, Modoris Ali Mofazzal,

Faruk Miah, Anwar Khan, Ruhul Amin Chamok,

Abdus Sobhan, Helal Miah, Fayzur Rahman, Sharif Uddin,

Ishtiaq Khan, Abdur Rob, Nazir Ali, Abdul Alim,

Muhibur Rahman, and Shamim Ahmed.

The Club Secretary, Md. Misbah Uddin, expressed his gratitude for the strong attendance and presented the activity and financial reports for the previous period. He also submitted the list of current academy players who are training regularly and outlined the immediate needs and developmental priorities for the club and academy.

The Convener, Alhaj Manik Miah, highlighted that although the academy was established just two years ago through the support of expatriates, it has already become a well-recognised sporting organisation in Bishwanath Upazila. The academy is now officially registered with Sylhet District Sports Association and the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF); a milestone achievement.

The meeting unanimously approved a proposal for each member to contribute £100 to support field renovation and to ensure smooth and continuous operations throughout the year.

Senior Member Mr. Motosir Khan emphasised the importance of establishing a sustainable financial reserve to secure the academy’s long-term future. He proposed creating a fixed deposit fund, where the generated profit would be used to cover operational expenses. Members agreed, deciding to finalise details after Ramadan in a dedicated planning session.

Also, five new Lifetime Members were welcomed to the organisation:

Haji Abdur Rob, Muhibur Rahman Muhib, Nazir Ali, Abdul Alim, and Faruk Miah.

The academy also expressed sincere appreciation to:

  • Muhibur Rahman Muhib for donating two full sets of jerseys for the new season (worth 25,000 BDT).
  • Member Abdur Rob and Secretary Md. Misbah Uddin for donating five bicycles (worth 40,000 BDT) to support the most financially disadvantaged players who travel daily to training.

The club currently supports 60–70 regular participants, most from underprivileged backgrounds. The academy provides structured training that helps keep young people positively engaged, away from anti-social behaviours.

Football remains the main sporting activity, supported by two volunteer coaching staff, who can presently train players only once a week due to limited resources. Members agreed that developing a permanent training and playing ground is essential to meet the growing needs of the academy.

To strengthen sustainability, it was agreed to open a Life Membership at £200, with an additional annual contribution of £100 from each member. All existing members were also requested to contribute £100 this year.

The next General Meeting is scheduled after Ramadan, focusing on membership expansion and establishing a more formal organisational structure. Finally, Alhaj Manik Miah thanked all members once again and formally concluded the meeting.
