End-of-Year litter picking session along Longbridge Road

Published: 29 December 2025

On 29th December, Emdad Rahman MBE led an end-of-year litter picking initiative along Longbridge Road, Barking, bringing together local residents to strengthen community spirit and build momentum for the continued work of the Little Litter League in 2025.

The clean-up focused on the bushes and lay-by areas outside the entrances to Barking Park, locations that often accumulate significant litter. The effort saw strong community engagement, including the participation of young entrepreneur Aryan Rahman and his family, who travelled all the way from Portsmouth to support the initiative.

The session was further supported by the presence of local Ward Councillor Faruk Choudhury, highlighting the importance of collaboration between residents and local representatives in keeping public spaces clean and safe.

In just one hour, volunteers collected 10 full bags of litter. Items ranged from soft drink cans and crisp packets to alcohol bottles, as well as a discarded chisel; a potentially dangerous object if left in the wrong hands.

Overall, it was a rewarding and impactful day for everyone involved. The initiative served as a meaningful way to end the year; through a simple good deed that fostered communal responsibility, environmental awareness, and a shared sense of humility and care for the neighbourhood.
