Published: 15 December 2024

On Saturday, 14th December, the Brihottor Sylhet Education Trust (BSET) celebrated its 5th Graduates’ Awards Ceremony at the prestigious Impression Events Venue. This annual event honours the outstanding academic achievements of young graduates within the British Bangladeshi diaspora and aims to inspire the next generation.

Event Highlights:

The ceremony, co-hosted by Dilwar Hussain (General Secretary) and Parvez Shah (Trustee), began with a Quran recitation by Moulana Ashraful Islam (EC Member), followed by the Bangladesh and British national anthems.

Chairman Mohiv Uddin addressed the packed venue, which included graduates, proud parents, community dignitaries, business sponsors, and supporters. Highlighting BSET’s commitment since 2011, he shared how the trust has recently provided scholarships to over 4,000 students in Sylhet, Bangladesh, distributing more than £40,000 in donations from the UK. However, he emphasised that the need for basic educational support in Bangladesh remains far greater and urged the audience to continue supporting BSET’s mission.

He stated:

“Tonight is a night of celebration, not only for the remarkable achievements of our graduates but also for the collective efforts of parents and sponsors that have made this journey possible.”

Awards and Recognition

The ceremony featured short, inspiring speeches from dignitaries including Sir Stephen Timms MP and Rupa Haq MP, followed by the distribution of awards to dozens of graduates. Each recipient received a special crest and certificate commemorating their academic achievements. Business sponsors were also honored for their continued financial support, which made the event possible.
