Asharkandi Union FC are crowned Champions of Jagannathpur Union Cup 2023

On Sunday 16th July, in the Robert Clack Leisure Centre, Dagenham, Jagannathpur Upazila Football Club UK and the organising committee, including Akik Miah, Sana Miah, Jahangir Mannan, Aros Miah, Tofozul Hussain, Jamal Uddin, Abul Kashem and many others held their 8th Annual Jagannathpur Union Cup for all the expats of their ancestral thana of Jagannathpur, Sunamganj, Bangladesh.

 On the day, crowds descended from all around the UK to the grounds to watch their team compete against their neighbouring unions:

Asharkhandi Patli

Mirpur

Ranigonj

Syedpur

Shaharpara

Pailgow

JP Pauroshova

 It was a jubilant atmosphere as 8 teams entertained the spectators with their skilful play and teamwork as they progressed towards victory. The four semi-finalists were Asharkandi, Mirpur, Ranigonj and JP Pauroshova.

 At the final, Asharkandi Union’s Abdul Qayum scored their only goal as they successfully defended it with grit and determination and went on to lift the Jagannathpur Union Cup 2023.

 It was rightfully theirs considering it was their 4th attempt, and the players were getting desperate for success. Their player-manager, Shabul Miah, was so pleased with their results, said, “This win means a lot to us. It connects us back to our roots which makes us more determined to contribution in Bangladesh as well as in the UK!”

 Congratulations to Asharkandi Union and our commiserations to Mirpur Union who were worthy finalists.

 The Jagannathpur Upazila Football Club UK will use the success of this tournament to prepare for the forthcoming Greater Sylhet Upazila Cup, organised by Sonali Othith UK.
