BPKP hosts View Exchange and Welcome Reception for Dr. Mohammed Enamul Haque Chowdhury

On Tuesday, 28th January, the Bangladesh Probashi Kallyan Parishad (BPKP) organised a view exchange and welcome reception in honour of Dr. Mohammed Enamul Haque Chowdhury, Advisor to the Chairperson of the Bangladesh National Party (BNP), Begum Khaleda Zia. The event took place at the Royal Regency Events Venue in Ilford, bringing together more than 60 community leaders, including executive committee members of BPKP and senior representatives from various organisations advocating for the rights of Non-Resident Bangladeshis (NRBs), such as Probashi Odikar Parishad.

The event commenced with a Quran recitation, followed by a floral appreciation ceremony. It was jointly hosted by Syed Ahbab Hussain, General Secretary of BPKP, and Abdul Bari, Senior Vice Chair. Several senior BPKP members were also in attendance, including Abdul Halim Choudhury, Ashikur Rahman, Ayesha Chowdhury, Cllr Foyzur Rahman, Mayen Uddin Ansar, Shamima Mita, Sumona Sumi, Anisur Rahman, Foysal Alam, Joynal Khan, Mustak Ali Babul, and Advisor Sami Sanaullah.

Additionally, members such as Hafsa Islam, Aminur Rahman, Mostak Ahmed, Alam Sheikh, Md Zakaria, and Tozomul Ali were present, among others. Attendees were also given the opportunity to engage with the keynote speaker and pose their questions.

Key Discussion Points

The discussion focused on Bangladesh’s current political landscape and the role of NRBs in shaping the country’s future. Several other key issues affecting NRBs regardless of which government is in power were also addressed, including:

  • Safety of NRBs when traveling in Bangladesh
  • Airport harassment and security concerns
  • Challenges in NID and visa processing
  • Difficulties in land acquisition and investment
  • Infrastructure development needs
  • Voting rights for NRBs in Bangladesh’s future elections
  • Repatriation of deceased NRBs bodies at no cost to their families

Dr. Enamul Haque Chowdhury expressed his gratitude to all the attendees and emphasised the significant role of NRBs in Bangladesh’s political and social transformation. He reassured the audience that, if BNP comes to power, they would work in partnership with NRBs and organisations such as BPKP to address their concerns and protect the rights of expatriates.

As an NRB himself, he highlighted the crucial role of NRBs in Bangladesh’s economic growth and development, recognising that their contributions and demands are both legitimate and valuable.

The event concluded with a commitment to continued engagement between BNP leadership and NRB communities, fostering collaboration for the betterment of Bangladesh and its expatriate citizens.
