Abul Hyat Nurujjaman receives the ‘Freeman of the City of London’ Award
Prominent British-Bangladeshi Accountant Mr Abul Hyat Nurujjaman of Taj Accountants London has been honoured with the famous ‘Freeman of the City of London’ Award this month.
Mr Nurujjaman, also Director-General of British Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry was conferred the prestigious ‘Freeman of the City of London’ Award in recognition of his special contribution in accountancy, business support, mentoring, organisational skills and community services. The ‘Freedom’ award was officially conferred at the Chamberlain’s Court of the City of London Guildhall on Tuesday 18th October 2022. Prominent leaders of the British Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BBCCI), journalists and distinguished members of the community were present at the special award ceremony.
After receiving ‘Freedom of the City of London’ award, Mr Nurujjaman expressed his gratitude: “It is with great humility that I accept this prestigious award and I dedicate it to everyone I have served in my amazing community. I’m confident that this award will most certainly encourage me to serve my community even more as they continuously need inspiration, support and guidance in order to achieve their goals in life.”
Respected BBCCI President Mr Saidur Rahman Renu, Advisor Emeritus & Former President Professor Shahagir Bakht Faruk, Former BBCCI President and renowned international businessman Mr Bashir Ahmed, Finance Director of BBCCI Mr Ataur Rahman Kuti, BBCCI London Region President and former Head of Finance Mr Monir Ahmed, General Secretary of London Bangla Press Club and Weekly Desh newspaper editor Mr Taysir Mahmud; Mr Ashid Ali, Principal, London Enterprise Academy, and former Tower Hamlets Councillor and Olympic Ambassador Mr Wais Islam, community activists Mr Muhi Mikdad, Mr Jiaur Rahman, Mr Ala Uddin, TV-One reporter & journalist Mr Zakir Hassan Kois, Channel S Chief Cameraman Mr Rezaul Karim Mridha and many others were present throughout the momentous award ceremony.
Mr Abul Hyat Nurujjaman was born in December, 1981 in Sylhet, Bangladesh. His father late Md Nurul Islam Mati was a senior officer at the Forest Department of Bangladesh, and his mother Nurun Nahar has always been an inspirational figure in his life whom he completed Hajj with this year. At the age of 21, he moved to the United Kingdom to study attaining a bachelors honours degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Greenwich.
In 2010, he established his own accountancy firm, Taj Accountants, in Vallance Road, Whitechapel, East London. Starting as small operation it has now grown into a flagship accountancy firm in East London. Since its inception, Taj Accountants has won many accolades and awards for its excellent customer service and expertise in the field of accountancy and taxation. Apart from business, the company has been instrumental in supporting various social activities in the community.
Mr Abul Hyat Nurujjaman received the AAT “Licensed Member of the Year Award” in 2017. He was also awarded “the Best Small Business of the Year 2019” award by The London Asian Business Awards in 2019. He was also featured as a cover story on Industry leading “Accounting Technician Magazine” July-August 2017 issue.
Mr. Nurujjaman regularly participates in community and business events as a special guest and speaker in major UK cities on behalf of his organisation. He also previously served as the President of the London Region before being elected as Director-General of BBCCI.
The Freeman or Freedom of the City of London award dates back to 1237 when it was incepted in recognition of those making economic, cultural and social contributions to London. Successful people in their respective fields get this award. Honorary Freeman of the City of London has been awarded to many famous people at various times in history which include Prince George, Duke of Cambridge, who received the honour in 1857, former South African President Nelson Mandela, former British Prime Ministers Winston Churchill, Benjamin Disraeli and Margaret Thatcher, members of the British Royal family Princess Diana; Florence Nightingale; former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg; and former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl to name a few.
