BPKP forges close cooperation with the new Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation

On Wednesday, 11th October, at the Impression Events Venue, Stratford, London E15, a special evening was held by Bangladesh Probashi Kallyan Parishad (BPKP) to welcome the new Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation, Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury and to raise awareness of “Save Our Properties” campaign.

Also, the meeting was about forging a closer cooperation between the mayor and BPKP to alleviate the concerns of the Non-resident Bangladeshis about the misappropriation of their land and properties in Sylhet and across Bangladesh and insist a better legal and municipal protection of their assets.

The opening recitation from the Holy Quran was read by Moulana Abdul Quddus, and the evening was co-chaired by General Secretary, Syed Ahbab Hussain and Vice Chair, Mayen Uddin Ansar. The opening welcoming address was by Vice Chair Abdul Bari.

Supporting words of wisdom were provided by senior advisors of BPKP; Shahagir Bakth Faruk, Ahmed Us Samad Chowdhury JP, Sami Sanaullah, Aziz Chowdhury, and Muhibur Rahman Muhib.

Short speeches were also provided by various executive members of BPKP, including ex-Chairman, Ashikur Rahman, and the current Chairman, Jahangir Khan followed by a flowers and crest presentation to the mayor by various members of BPKP, including Moon Qureshi, Shamima Mita, Sumona Sumi to name a few. Also present were Oli Uddin Shamim and Manwar Clark of the Italian branch of BPKP, Shah Munim, Parvez Qureshi BEM, Cllr Foyzur Rahman, Joynal Khan, Manikur Rahman, Foysal Ahmed, Zain Miah, Alam Sheikh, Abdul Halim, Treasurer, Dr Mashuk Ahmed, Nilmoni Singh, and Numan Malik to name a few.

The keynote speech was by the chief guest, Mayor Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, “InshaAllah, I assume my role from 9th November, and I want to get to work straight away for some of the demands you’ve asked of me tonight.

“I have been an NRB for many years and know exactly the issues I need to prioritise for our NRBs. I have known some of my seniors sitting here with many years of experience and I want you to work closely with me and insha’Allah, not a single property would be misappropriated in Sylhet under my mayoralty!

“I encourage all the young entrepreneurs, 2nd and 3rd generation British Bangladeshis to come and visit Sylhet, invest in Sylhet and I will guarantee your safety and security needs.”

BPKP would pursue the mayor to be a chief advisor for BPKP’s Sylhet branch.  The evening ended with various photo sessions and a dinner provided by Impression Events Venue.

BPKP is a campaign organisation working for the betterment of the non-residential Bangladeshis in the UK and Europe.
