Day 3

By Shofi Ahmed

The opening chapter of the Quran, Surah Fathiha, is recited in every Raqah unit of prayer and is revered for its endless virtues. In this digital age, we can explore the inner workings of its immensely meaningful and effective composition.

The structure of Al-Fathiha follows a logical and coherent sequence of ideas that are presented in a clear and concise manner. The chapter begins by praising and glorifying Allah SWT, acknowledging His greatness and infinite power. This sets the tone for the rest of the Qur’an, emphasising the importance of recognising Allah SWT’s sovereignty and seeking His guidance.

The second part of Al-Fathiha is a request for guidance from Allah SWT, recognising that true knowledge and understanding can only come from Him. This highlights the importance of humility and submission to Him, as well as the recognition of our own limitations as human beings.

The final part of Al-Fathiha is a plea for Allah SWT’s help and support in staying on the right path. This demonstrates the recognition that guidance is an ongoing process, and that we need Allah SWT’s support to continue on the right path.

Overall, the structure of Al-Fathiha is a powerful example of effective communication, presenting a clear and logical progression of ideas that build on each other to create a cohesive message. Its message of recognising Allah SWT’s sovereignty, seeking His guidance, and relying on His support is timeless and relevant in today’s digital age.
