Humza Yousaf has made history as Scotland’s first Muslim leader. Raised in Glasgow by Punjabi immigrants. Notably Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also has Punjabi descent.

Yousaf’s political career began as a parliamentary assistant to the first Muslim elected to the Scottish Parliament. He worked his way up the political ladder, serving as a junior minister under Alex Salmond and as the justice secretary under Nicola Sturgeon.

Yousaf’s appointment as the new leader of the Scottish National Party and First Minister of Scotland marks a major milestone for Muslims in Scotland and Britain, as he becomes the most senior Muslim leader in Western Europe. When the announcement was made, his mother, wearing a hijab, shed tears of joy.

His rise to power is a testament to Scotland’s inclusivity and diversity. Yousaf’s dedication and commitment to public service demonstrate that anyone can achieve success, regardless of their background.
