An Urgent Appeal to the Muslim World: Unite Against Inhuman Persecutions of Our Fellow Muslims

Published: 4 August 2023

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Islam,

Our hearts are heavy with a profound sense of responsibility towards our fellow Muslims facing unimaginable suffering. The global Muslim community must stand united in the face of the inhuman persecution inflicted upon our brothers and sisters in Xinjiang, China. We must raise our voices in solidarity and demand an immediate end to their ordeal.

Our Uyghur brothers and sisters are enduring an unspeakable tragedy in the Xinjiang region. The Chinese government’s actions have brought shocking revelations of abuse, torture, forced labour, religious oppression, and forced sterilisation. These are clear violations of their fundamental human rights and dignity. We cannot stand idly by as our fellow Muslims are subjected to such atrocities.

The teachings of Islam emphasise the sanctity of human life, the pursuit of justice, and the importance of defending the oppressed. Our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was a mercy to all humankind, and he taught us to show compassion and empathy towards one another. In the spirit of these teachings, we cannot remain silent while our brothers and sisters suffer.

We are one Ummah, one community bound by faith and shared values. When one part of our body is in pain, the entire body feels it. The suffering of our Uyghur brothers and sisters in China is a stain on the conscience of the Muslim world. Our collective duty is to advocate for their rights and demand an immediate end to the inhumane treatment they are enduring.

This is not a call for division or animosity; it is a call for unity and compassion. Regardless of our geographical boundaries or cultural differences, we are all part of the same Muslim family. Let us transcend borders and language barriers to stand together in support of justice and human rights.

To our brothers and sisters in Xinjiang, we want you to know that you are not alone. Your pain is felt by Muslims all over the world. We are praying for your safety, freedom, and well-being. Your courage in the face of adversity inspires us, and we promise to amplify your voice and bring your plight to the world’s attention.

To the leaders and governments of the Muslim world, we implore you to prioritise the plight of the Uyghur Muslims in your diplomatic engagements. Raise your voices on the international stage and urge them to end the persecution immediately. We can exert collective pressure on those responsible and bring about real change.

To the Muslim communities worldwide, let us come together in prayer and supplication for our suffering brothers and sisters. Let us organise peaceful demonstrations, awareness campaigns, and educational events to ensure that the world knows about the atrocities taking place in Xinjiang.

Our faith calls us to be a force for good, to stand up against oppression, and to promote justice and equality. Now is the time for action. Now is the time for our voices to be heard. Together, we can make a difference and end the inhuman persecution of our fellow Muslims.

May Allah (SWT) guide us and grant strength to the oppressed. May He soften the hearts of those perpetrating these injustices so that they may realise their wrongdoings. May our unity and collective efforts lead to a world where justice prevails, and humanity lives in peace.

Ameen.

In solidarity,

Imran Chowdhury, A Concerned Member of the Muslim Ummah
