Bangladesh Regeneration Trust raises £5,000 for flood victims at St Martin’s Restaurant Fundraiser.
On Sunday, 5th January, during lunchtime, the Bangladesh Regeneration Trust (BRTUK) hosted a highly successful fundraising event at St Martin’s Restaurant in Carshalton (Sutton) to support its vital shelter rebuilding and rehabilitation programme for the flood victims of Noakhali, Bangladesh.
The event attracted over 70 participants, including men, women, and children—primarily extended family members of restaurant partner and BRTUK member Kabir Ahmed. Attendees enjoyed a lively afternoon featuring fun activities and a delicious meal, with all costs generously covered by Kabir and his family. The event also benefited from baklava desserts kindly provided by RC Catering.
The programme included interactive ice-breakers, opportunities for networking, and updates on BRTUK’s key initiatives in Bangladesh across education, health, and livelihood projects. The highlight of the afternoon was a dedicated fundraiser for the home-building project in Noakhali, which successfully raised an impressive £5,000 to support this critical cause.
Mohammed Ansar Miah, owner of St Martin’s Restaurant, shared his enthusiasm for hosting the event:
“BRTUK are doing fantastic work in Bangladesh, and it’s only right we offer them the space and opportunity to come and fundraise in our restaurant. Especially when we’re not open to the public at lunchtime, we’ve utilised our restaurant and space effectively.”
Ibrahim Ali, Chairman of BRTUK, expressed his gratitude and excitement for the success of the event:
“This is our first fundraiser in this part of the country, specifically in this restaurant, and the participants have been very supportive and generous in their contributions. We would like to replicate this kind of initiative in other restaurants and regions of the country, bringing people together for a good cause during the restaurant’s closed times.
“Please contact us for more information on our work and how to set up a fundraiser in food outlets, especially Indian and Bangladeshi restaurants.”
In addition to its flood relief efforts, BRTUK pioneers the annual Heritage Tour of Bangladesh, showcasing the rich culture and history of the region.
The Bangladesh Regeneration Trust continues its mission to rebuild homes and provide shelter to flood victims in Noakhali. Fundraising events like this play a crucial role in raising awareness and securing the resources needed to rebuild lives and communities.
