The newly established Thames Titans Cricket Club was officially inaugurated at the Tara Taree restaurant in Whitechapel, alongside the launch of a dynamic new badminton club. Together, under the unifying banner “One Team, One Dream!”, these dual-sport initiatives aim to promote grassroots participation while creating high-performance pathways for local talent.

The launch event drew a distinguished audience, including Tower Hamlets Councillor Abdul Wahid, Deputy Speaker Councillor Suluk Ahmed, Inner London Football League Chair Rashid Ali BCAc, former England international and Mayor’s Sports Advisor Shuhel Malique, BCSA UK President Abdus Salam, and Shahidul Alam Ratan, CEO and President of Capital Kids Cricket.

Each guest emphasised the transformative power of sport in fostering community unity, personal development, and social mobility.

Rashid Ali praised the club’s bold approach: “By intertwining cricket’s rich tradition with badminton’s fast-paced appeal, the Thames Titans are setting a powerful precedent for inclusive, community-led sport.”

Malique commended the year-round engagement potential: “Bringing together cricket and badminton opens doors for people of all ages to stay active and connected.”

Ratan called for deeper collaboration across sectors: “When clubs, schools, and businesses come together as one team, every dream becomes achievable.”

The Titans’ cricket programme will focus on youth coaching, weekend leagues, and trials, all inspired by the club’s guiding philosophy. On the badminton front, preparations are already underway for county and national qualifiers, with the Tower Hamlets Open on the horizon.

The club’s committee acknowledged the generosity of sponsors who are underwriting venue hire, equipment, and general expenses—ensuring that financial hardship will not stand in the way of promising talent.

Imran Imon, speaking on behalf of the Thames Titans, concluded with passion and purpose:
