Bangladesh Probashi Kallayan Parishad (BPKP) successfully concludes BGM and Election in London

On the evening of Tuesday, 29th April, the Bangladesh Probashi Kallayan Parishad (BPKP) successfully held its Biennial General Meeting (BGM) and Executive Committee Election at the prestigious Impression Events Venue in Stratford, London.

The programme was conducted in two parts. The first segment, the BGM, was presided over by outgoing Chairperson Mr. Jahangir Khan and conducted by Secretary General Mr. Syed Ahbab Hossain. The event commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Moulana Anisur Rahman.

Subsequently, the Secretary General and outgoing Treasurer, Mr. Halim Chowdhury, presented the annual report. Several proposals for constitutional amendments were tabled and discussed, receiving mixed responses from the attending members.

At the conclusion of the BGM, the Election Commission led by Mr. Shahagir Bakth Faruk and Mr. Ajit Ghosh took over the proceedings. Mr. Muhibur Rahman Muhib, a BPKP adviser, was present as an observer to ensure transparency and fairness.

The second part of the programme was the election. All executive positions were contested, and candidates submitted their nominations in accordance with the rules. Following a transparent and orderly process, the Election Commission declared the newly elected Executive Committee. Key positions include:

  • Chairperson: Md. Abdul. Bari
  • Secretary General: Mustak Ali Babul
  • Treasurer: Dr. Syed Mashuk Ahmed
  • Senior Vice Chair: Foyzur Rahman

BPKP is a campaign-driven organisation focused on advocating for the welfare and rights of Non-Resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) across the UK and Europe. The newly elected committee, with a two-year mandate, will continue to advance its mission with a renewed business plan. Their priorities include:

  1. The “Save Our Properties” campaign
  2. Ensuring a smooth transition to National ID Cards for all NRBs
  3. Addressing airport-related issues affecting NRBs
  4. Advocating for reform and clarity around inheritance and property laws in Bangladesh for the diaspora
