Charity badminton tournament brings together the best of British-Bangladeshis

Published: 30 January 2024

On Sunday 28th January, at least 16 hardcore badminton enthusiasts convened at the Jesse Jackson Sports Hall, London Enterprise Academy (LEA) to compete for the top gong in a charity badminton tournament, where all the funds go to Bangladesh Regeneration Trust (BRTUK) and their forthcoming charity and heritage of Bangladesh in February.

The tournament was organised by LEA Principal, Ashid Ali and LEA Careers Advisor & Parental Engagement Officer Muhi Mikdad, who will also be participants in the heritage tour. However, this tournament would not have been possible without the support and expertise of Shaheen and Cllr Harun Miah, both are also very skilful players.

There was a large crowd of spectators and guests including Shamim, a veteran of British-Bangladeshi badminton and one of the best players in the country.

As for the competition, there were some very good qualities of badminton played, all in a very positive spirit and sportsmanship. However, after more than 5 hours of enduring competition, and the clocking ticking towards midnight, there had to be only one pair of winners to the LEA Charity Champion Trophy 2024. The following outcomes were achieved:

Champions – Akik & Jakariya

Runners Up – Wakil & Shipon

Third place – Joshim & Riyad

The Chief Guest, Shamim handed out the trophies to the winners and runner-up, whilst BRTUK representative, Alam Sheikh handed out BRTUK t-shirts to all the participants.

“Great camaraderie and some good badminton was being played, as well as raising money for charity too.” Said Ashid Ali, Principal of LEA.

“Hopefully, this can go towards some great causes supported by BRTUK, such as the health and educational support of the Rohingya refugees.” He added.
