Tower Hamlets applauds Ashid Ali with prestigious Civic Award
On Wednesday 23rd April, at the Ecology Pavilion, Mile End Park, Ashid Ali, Principal of London Enterprise Academy (LEA), has been honoured with the Tower Hamlets Civic Award 2025 in recognition of his remarkable contributions to education and community development in East London.
A passionate educator and community leader, Mr Ali has transformed London Enterprise Academy into a hub of academic excellence and civic engagement. Under his leadership, the school has pioneered initiatives such as student-led fundraising, food bank drives, and weekly community clean-ups, instilling strong values of social responsibility among students. His dedication extends beyond the classroom, offering extra academic support and enrichment activities that have made a profound difference in one of the UK’s most deprived areas.
The award was presented by Councillor Saif Uddin Khaled, Speaker of Tower Hamlets, acknowledging Mr Ali’s inspiring work beyond his professional duties, motivating both students and adults to contribute positively to their local community.
Mr Ali was nominated by community champion Muhi Mikdad, and was recognised not only for his educational leadership but also for his devotion to youth empowerment through sports, particularly badminton, where he is both an advocate and active participant.
Born in Ghulduba, Nabiganj, Bangladesh, and raised in Oldham, Mr Ali pursued his PGCE in Manchester and later earned a Master’s in Education from the University of East London. His journey is a powerful testament to the impact of perseverance, purpose, and community service.
This is not his first major accolade, Mr Ali was previously granted the Freedom of the City of London in 2023 for his services to education.
The celebration concluded with a sumptuous buffet dinner provided by All Season Foods, bringing together awardees, supporters, and civic leaders in a vibrant tribute to community spirit.
