No sitting on Santa’s knee this year, says Downing Street
Post Desk : Children will be allowed to meet Father Christmas in his grotto this year — but they cannot sit on his lap, Downing Street said.
Grottos, nativity plays and carol singing will all be permitted when England’s national lockdown is lifted this week, but they must adhere to Covid-19 restrictions.
However, the Prime Minister’s official spokesman said children are only allowed to meet Father Christmas in a “Covid secure way”.
He said Santa did not have to wear a facemask when meeting children, adding: “We obviously know meeting Father Christmas is a magical experience for children which is why he will be taking safety precautions including ensuring that he is operating in a covid secure way. But it won’t be required for Santa to wear a mask.”
Asked if children could sit on his knee, the spokesman replied: “No, that is not part of the guidance. It won’t be permitted for children to sit on his knee as part of the guidance.”
